Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A Silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Gyronny Argent and Azure (Teal Blue) on a bend Sable a gyroscope of the first.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Silver triparted scroll inscribed "ON THE MOVE" in Black letters.

Symbolism
Teal blue and white were the colors used for Aviation battalions.  The gyroscope, an instrument widely used to stabilize and maintain the equilibrium of aircraft, is used symbolically to allude to firmness and uniformity of purpose and reflects the Battalion's support functions of reconnaissance and surveillance.  The diagonal band simulates a runway and the radiating background, the whirling blades of a propeller.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 8 October 1965.

That for the regiments and separate battalions of the Army Reserve:  On a wreath of the colors Argent and Azure (Teal Blue), the Lexington Minute Man Proper.  The statue of the Minute Man, Captain John Parker (H.H. Kitson, sculptor), stands on the Common in Lexington, Massachusetts.
